Beautiful Things

About a year and a half ago, my husband and boys began construction in our house. Construction in my work space!  The room in which I spent most of my time had began to shrink in size as I grew my business. It quickly began to ‘get smaller and smaller’ as the years passed. Not enough storage or work space, you get the idea. I wouldn’t say it was messy, more like a mis-matched chaos system of different ways to store my things!  Ha! Who am I kidding? It was a plain ole’ mess! A disaster, that crept its way out of ‘my space’ into the personal living space of our basement. It was time to get our personal space back and turn that chaos around!

My boys worked hard at creating my new, bigger, better, more functional space.  They knocked down walls, hung dry wall, installed new flooring,  and painted.   I also have the best lighting out there thanks to my amazing ‘electrician’ husband! There is more than enough cabinet space for storage and the color on the walls speaks ‘calmness’. Ahhh! All my machines are neatly placed along the walls and a beautiful cutting/work table fills the center of the room. It’s fantastic! A place now, that I absolutely love to be in!   A place where creativity just awaits. Before, the walls spoke “work?… I don’t think so“, “create?… how and where in this mess“. In fact they screamed, “Run!Run far away and fast!Ha!

Although the work space has been complete for awhile now, I didn’t have an opportunity to put the ‘finishing touches’ on it until recently. You know, the girly touches ☺  I have a dear friend that also shares the same creative mind that I do and runs her own successful home business.  Often times we inspire each other, but most times it’s just fun share the ‘creativity’ with someone ‘who gets it’! We’ve often spoke about the verse from a song that reminds us of ourselves. The verse from this song was where I started with the ‘finishing touches’ of my new work space! The song is called “Beautiful Things” by Gungor.

Here are the lyrics:

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

All around
Hope is springing up from this old ground
Out of chaos life is being found in You

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

You make me new, You are making me new
You make me new, You are making me new

You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of the dust
You make beautiful things
You make beautiful things out of us

You might be wondering what this has to do with my work space?? Well, it all began years ago. My friend and I have always talked about how we can take a piece a fabric, a roll of vinyl, or a pile of shirts, anything – and turn them into something beautiful. They begin as ‘dust’ and then are transformed into something beautiful.

But, what the song really speaks about is how God can take us… each of us, and make something beautiful out of our dust. He can transform our lives into beauty and provide us with new hope. It doesn’t matter what our past speaks of, or what mistakes we’ve made. It doesn’t matter how crazy and chaotic our life may be. It doesn’t matter that our hearts are broken, or that we’ve been struggling to find hope.

“He makes beautiful things out the dust! He makes us new and transforms us! Amen, Amen!

Can I just encourage you by saying that if God can use me, He can use you.  If He can transform me and make something beautiful out of me, in the midst of my storm and ‘my dust’… He can do the same for you!

“if God can use me, He can use you

I shared with you before in previous posts and My Story, how God had been working in my heart long before Hope Daisy began. How I felt Him tugging at me, transforming me and preparing me for this journey. Then, right smack in the middle of the darkest, most terrifying and painful time in my life, He made something beautiful of out me. He laid it on my heart to be a light and spread His goodness through this blog.  I’ve also shared with you that I am a relatively quiet, reserved person. I’m not comfortable speaking in front of groups of people (my bible study gals can attest to that ☺), or making myself ‘noticeable’. But, somehow, in this little corner of my world, here I am with a blog and building Hope Daisy and spreading His goodness!

I always knew the verse to that song would make its way onto my new wall space.  It reminds me of my ‘creativity’ for sure, but it speaks to my heart and tells me that even though my life is full of dust, God can make something beautiful out of it. Out of me.

“If God can do this and use me – the one with a big pile of ‘dust’, the one with a quiet, shy demeanor…He can certainly use you too.  He can transform you and make beautiful things out of you.  Don’t give up. Don’t lose hope. Allow Him in, let Him transform you and to make beautiful things out of the dust.

“He can transform you and make beautiful things out of you

Blessings!

Pamela

One response to “Beautiful Things”

  1. Your creative mind is truly a demonstration of God’s love. His beauty flows out of most everything you say and do. Truly truly blessed by your friendship and witness to the kind of person who really does have the right to call herself a follower of Jesus.
You make me want to go clean my space. And paint it, and organize it. ha ha. But maybe I will just go sew.
