Gratitude Even When It Hurts

This past week expressing gratitude has been weighing heavy on my heart. Truth is, I experienced a loss recently and the weariness is oh-so-heavy.

But, what I know is … gratitude is a reflection and expression of our heart posture. A choice that requires us to look beyond ourselves and instead look at Who. And if we’re all honest, that can sometimes be tough in the midst of hard times.

Many years ago I realized that making the choice to express thankfulness and gratitude is an act of faith, hope and trust. A decision – an inward expression that takes me farther beyond what my human understanding is capable of.

Instead of choosing to see what the world places before me – I have to make a conscious effort to look for things and ways to experience the fullness of what God offers.

Here’s just a few quick ways I practice gratitude!

  1. Keep a gratitude journal and add to it every day. (here is the one I use)
  2. Enjoy and notice the beauty in nature!
  3. Include an act of kindness in your life each day.
  4. Post positive quotes and images around your home or office that remind you of how blessed you are.
  5. Focus on your strengths.
